Introduction

My name is Kayleigh Curtis. This is my first year at WSU and I came here from Spokane, WA. In high school I was a cheerleader, but here I am a small fish in a really big pond! I came to WSU because of the Murrow College of Communication. I wanted to go to film school, but my parents wanted me to go to college so WSU is the best of both worlds. Ever since I can remember I have LOVED movies, they are like my religion so "when I grow up" I want to produce or edit movies. The communication college offers a Broadcast Production major, so I figure I will start out working at news stations and work my way up the ladder.

I also love music! I play the guitar and sing, but I don't really write songs. I think having a creative outlet is really important for everyone and music is mine :)

As far as my writing goes, I have always done well in English. I don't really follow outlines (or even make them) so my writing can start out pretty out there, so I'm glad we will be getting lots of feedback. I do enjoy writing...most of the time, but I like reading more. I just really want to take all of the classes for my major (aka the fun stuff!) but hopefully I can make it through this semester first!

  1. That is really cool you want to go to film school. I also love movies so hopefully I'll see your name in the credits in the future! But I am also here for the College of Communications; but I'm just broadcast. Maybe we'll have some classes together in the future though. Look forward to getting to know you!

  2. Alright first off, Fight Club is one of my favorite movies so props on the quote :) I was also a cheerleader in high school and know exactly how you feel about being a "small fish" at wsu but I think once you find your niche, you will feel the pond is a lot smaller! I'm also in the Murrow College of Communications doing PR for Sports Teams (hopefully!) and this semester is definitely an attempt to get a lot of GERs out of the way... ugh. I LOVE movies too! And that's awesome that you want to be a producer. Last semester, I think I watched at least 6 movies a week with my roommate. Needless to say, we had a lot of free time. She moved back home though :( and I have a much bigger class load than last semester, so sadly I think my progressing movie literacy is going to have to stall for a couple months. I did watch Animal House in the CUB tonight though! Free movies... It was awesome. Alright well I'll see you Tuesday and I'm excited to get to know you!

  3. Kayleigh-

First of all, love how you spell your name! And yes, I can understand the whole small fish concept as well being a cheerleader myself back in HS and some in college at Portland State.

I too sing, and am TRYING to teach myself how to play guitar. It's been a slow and broken process. I'll make sure to come to you with any guitar questions.

All the gened requirements can get monotonous, but I'm thinking this class will be a nice break from the monotony that we are stuck with for the first few semesters. Looking forward to working with you!
